The Real Estate Special Compensation Fund provides financial protection for members of the public who have lost money because of the actions of a real estate professional.
If you have entrusted money to a real estate professional or an unlicensed individual at a real estate brokerage, and your money has been:
- misappropriated or wrongfully converted,
- intentionally not paid over or accounted for, or
- obtained by fraud,
you may wish to file a claim for compensation from the Compensation Fund.

Trust Protection through the Compensation Fund
The Real Estate Special Compensation Fund was introduced in 2005 under the Real Estate Services Act and it is entirely funded by real estate licensees.
The Special Compensation Fund is administered by the Real Estate Compensation Fund Corporation, a not-for-profit statutory corporation that is overseen by a five-member appointed Board of Directors.
